The Property 

The Old Fire Station was purpose built in 1904 and served many years as the Crowborough Fire Station. With its brickwork arches housing timber doors, the building was significant to the architecture of the High Street.

The design of the building was not best suited to more modern motor propelled vehicles which lead to a new site being constructed in 1970’s. Unfortunately, with the decommissioning and subsequent sale of the building, the arches and joinery were removed and replaced with the current glazed shop front. It is with this that the building had lost identity and to this date was occupied by several businesses.

For years I had felt personally saddened by the story behind this building and had admired its structure and hidden past, and was delighted at the opportunity to occupy the property and the chance to share the history.

  

The Business

The Old Crowborough Fire Station a great local business, run by local people using local cakes and supplies. Downstairs, the format is a relaxed Cafe – arguably more a sociable Coffee and Sandwich Bar offering a selection of speciality coffees, dairy milkshakes and sandwiches. You can get anything from a Pot of Fair Trade Tea to a Glass of Soya Chai Latte and a Toasted Tea Cake to a Lemon Peppered Mackerel Sandwich, we also offer speciality lunches. The Old Crowborough Fire Station also runs a local sandwich delivery service and has a good range of customers throughout the town. 

Upstairs you will find a lounge area with a 50” TV Screen, a X-Box Kinnect, Football Table, Internet Stations and Sofas for customer use.

Up a couple more steps and through the corridor, you will be in another open space, with sofas, fold away tables, and a view of the High Street from the three, orignal, arch windows. This room is perfect for hire during the day for meetings and small events.
